Phones 4U

Phones 4U wanted a fun and engaging 3D online environment through which Sales staff would want to access a vast range of training and reference material.

The application was to be run by staff in-store on till machines and be updated and refreshed nightly with new material, training and product information.

The solution was a virtual version of Phones 4U’s real-world training Academy – Fort Dunlop, but altered slightly in keeping with Phones 4U’s brand irreverence.

A 3D fly-through brings the user through to reception where things take a strange turn right away. The receptionist might be a mariachi player, a cheerleader or an astronaut, but rest assured, whoever it is will have the latest info to hand. From there the user is transported through the halls of Fort Dunlop to their destination which behind an everyday door is anything but..

Each room is individually styled with a different personality, but all with up to the minute content updated from head office.

To fit the IT infrastructure and limitations of the till PCs, the project had to find innovative solutions.

A static core program sat on each store’s server disk that could be remotely updated if any new functionality was needed.

Slave till PCs launch this program over the intranet saving their own precious drive space. Live content is then loaded dynamically from a custom CMS to the user. Content ranges from images, video and .pdf’s to games and can be easily accessed by menus or searching as well as by exploring the virtual space.

Weekly training scores per store, calendars for store demos / presentation and links to e-learning and room booking in the real Fort Dunlop are all present front and centre.
